Columbia Musical Theatre Society (CMTS)

Columbia Musical Theatre Society (CMTS) is Columbia University’s oldest and only recognized student group that regularly produces musical theatre revivals. Columbia Musical Theatre Society produces high-quality musical revivals by striving to model the collaborative process of professional musical theatre and foster an inclusive, positive experience for all. As a community, CMTS endeavors to offer continuing mentorship and guidance to student theatre artists of all backgrounds, schools, and majors.

Programming

Each year, CMTS produces approximately three mainstage productions. Past productions have included Sunday in the Park with George, In the Heights, Cinderella, and The Rocky Horror Picture Show.

We additionally host a number of special events throughout the academic year. These have included 24 Hour Musical, where students commit to learning and performing a full length-musical within a period of 24 hours; Miscast, a cabaret where students have the opportunity to perform songs from roles in which they would never be cast; and Karaoke Nights, an opportunity to get to know the community in a low-stakes way while signing our favorite musical theatre songs.
