NOMADS: New and Original Material Authored and Directed by Students

NOMADS is a student theater group dedicated to presenting work written by current Columbia/Barnard students. Since 2003, NOMADS has provided students with a unique space for the creative development of expressive, imaginative, and challenging new theater, ranging from workshop readings to fully staged productions of original dramas, comedies, musicals, and interdisciplinary works. If you are a student artist looking to take your work to the next stage, NOMADS is here for you!

Programming

WordPlay – Every semester NOMADS pairs 3-6 undergraduate writers with Columbia graduate student mentors to workshop one of their pieces to be presented in a festival of readings toward the end of the semester. WordPlay is a great opportunity for writers who are still in the process of developing or refining a piece. The dates for WordPlay are to be determined, but will likely be in the later half of the semester. If chosen, NOMADS will work with you to find a director and actors for the reading.

MainStage – The goal of this production is to create a fully designed and developed production in Barnard's Glicker-Milstein Theatre. This is a great opportunity for more developed plays that are ready to be passed to a larger creative team and cast. If you are primarily interested in submitting for the MainStage slot, you are encouraged (but not required) to include in your submission other members of the team (director, stage manager, etc.) if you have them.
